To track your life by quantity of years rather than quality is something that I always felt added to the stress of birthdays. Sure, we all love cakes, confetti and adoration, but I’ve found birthdays to be more of a self evaluation day- a day geared around finding who you were and who you are. While these reflective moments are both intimate and beautiful, this year I decided to stop evaluating so harshly and to truly enjoy the moment.
We ventured out, greeting the sun as we drove down the 15 freeway, iced coffees in our hands, south bound thoughts on our minds. The days adventure ahead: La Jolla Sea Caves. Here we would explore the intricate details of the sea caves, paddle side by side sea lions, swim with leopard sharks, challenge one another to head stand contests on our kayaks, and above all, splash each other without mercy.
After working up an appetite, we sought refuge from the heat in the quaint garden-style patio of Barbarella Restaurant & Bar. A few tall beers and appetizers later we found ourselves fully satisfied, ready to embark on our next adventure: Aftershock Brewery in Old Town Temecula.
Now, if you look at a map, you’d realize our south bound, north bound direction doesn’t exactly make a ton of sense, but what is life without a little spontaneity? After all, what is an adventure without the willing? This lively group of mine could be spotted driving down the highway, windows down, music blasting to an endless playlist of 90’s throw backs, with dance moves to entertain any commuter.
After a few thirst-quenching beers at Aftershock Brewery, a intimate drinking space with around 20 beers on tap, (their rich espresso stout will change your life over some vanilla bean ice cream) we headed home for some bbq, specialty beers and games.
This day trip, as with all day trips are made memorable not just by the activities but the jokes along the way, the dares, the bad directions, the dance parties in the car, and above all, the people.
If you’d like to partake on your own beach day adventure here are some links and info to aid you in your journey. Happy exploring! Cheers!
